50 years ago (1961)

Everett School Safety Patrol Officer Mike Lewis handed out tickets and advice to local School Safety Patrol representatives who were off to Washington D.C. and the National Parade in the capital. Representatives were Phil Thorleifson, patrol supervisor at Lowell School; Terry Barlow, Hawthorne School sixth grader; and Peter LaPointe, Immaculate Conception School ninth grader.

One of five Everett girls running for Queen of the Marysville Strawberry Festival was Sharon Harsh. Vocalist with the Invictes dance band, she was a sophomore at Everett High School and vice president of her Tri-Hi-Y club.

25 years ago (1986)

Mary Fraser of Lake Stevens, Gary Howard of Arlington, and Rudy P. Johnson of Everett were among 67 educators nominated for Western Washington University’s “Awards for Professional Excellence” program. Winners would be announced at an awards ceremony at the Viking Union Building at WWU in Bellingham.

Former Everett resident David Madsen was awarded a Fulbright Grant to participate in summer programs at the American Academy at Rome and the Vergilian Society at Cumae on the Bay of Naples.
