Prep baseball: Mariner 3, Lake Stevens 2

LAKE STEVENS — Freshman Kevaugn Umayam pitched a five-hitter as Mariner defeated Lake Stevens 3-2 in a 4A District 1 loser-out baseball game on Thursday.

Umayam struck out three and induced the Vikings to hit 12 pop fly outs as he improved his record to 3-0 on the year.

The Marauders move on to face Marysville Pilchuck on Saturday at 1 p.m., in another loser out contest. Mariner needs to win on Saturday and again Monday to advance to the 4A state tournament.
