SEDRO-WOOLLEY — With a state berth up for grabs, Everett outlasted Mount Vernon 12-7 in the 3A District 1 winner-to-state softball semifinals at Janicki Fields Wednesday evening.

Anna Hudson hit a solo home run to break a 7-7 tie in the fifth inning, and added a second homer in the sixth to

put her team up 9-7. Olivia Juarez added a two-RBI double in Everett’s four-run sixth inning. Hudson, a senior catcher, finished 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. With the two home runs, she now has eight this season.

“She (Hudson) has done a solid job all year, but she was really clutch tonight as a senior,” said Everett coach Kyle Peacocke. “But everybody in our starting lineup got at least one hit. It was a total team effort.”

Lexie Levin entered the game in the fifth for Everett and pitched three shutout innings to get the win. In a first-round matchup against Glacier Peak, Levin gave up just one earned run in a 10-2 win and batted 3-for-4.

Everett plays Mountlake Terrace at 7 p.m. Friday in the district championship game. Peacocke knows that his team will be ready for that game.

“I think the girls want to defend their district title championship from last year. They understand that Mountlake Terrace is going to be a good opponent. But right now, we’re just excited to make it to state.”

Terrace beat Shorewood 15-3 in the semis and won its opener 5-4 over Lynnwood. Shorewood beat Sedro-Woolley in the first round. Mt. Vernon beat Meadowdale 3-2 in the first round. Glacier Peak eliminated Meadowdale and Sedro-Woolley ousted Lynnwood in consolation play.
