Prep softball: Anacortes 15, Granite Falls 8

LYNDEN — Granite Falls came up short against Anacortes, which won the 2A District 1 softball championship at Bender Fields. The Tigers were up 8-6 before Anacortes’ seven-run sixth inning, in which Granite Falls committed two errors which proved to be the deciding factor of the game. Granite Falls committed five errors altogether.
“We just didn’t have a strong defensive game. It wasn’t one of our best games, and Anacortes is a tough, tough team,” said Granite Falls coach Candi Reeves after the loss. “Heading into state we know we can stay with these teams if we play heads up ball.”
Kelci Douglas had two doubles for Anacortes, and Tara Bellusci added two runs and batted 4-for-5.
Peyton Spencer was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI for Granite Falls. Teammate Nicole Wesala went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
