Curtains: Wrapping up a 25-year run, Oprah Winfrey tearfully taped the final episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” a simple show with no guests in which she expressed her gratitude to her audience of 400.

As a final surprise, Winfrey, who has launched her own cable network and is looking to fill its schedule, excitedly screamed to each member of her audience, “You get a show! And you get a show! And you get a show! Everybody gets a show!”

Unwilling Spirit: NASA is giving up on getting one of two of its roving robot Mars explorers to respond to any of the commands it has sent for more than a year. A final attempt to contact the Spirit rover will be made today.

While Spirit isn’t answering NASA’s calls, its agent, a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner, said that Spirit was stepping down from its Mars duties to spend more time with its robot family.
