Q: Your teachers call you a “Super Kid.” What classes are you taking this year?
A: All advanced placement classes, including psychology and biology. I’m ready to graduate.
Q: Do you have a favorite class?
A: Psychology. I just like it. I’m going to major in it next year
when I go to the University of Washington.
Q: Have you been at Henry M. Jackson for the past four years?
A: Yes, I like it. I’m a typical senior though, ready to get out.
Q: What has been your favorite part of high school?
A: The social part. I made a lot of good friends.
Q: Was the University of Washington your first choice for college?
A: Yes, otherwise I was going to go to Oregon State, but I was like, ‘Oh, I hope I get into the UDub’ and I did. It was a happy day.”
Q: Why do you feel it’s the right college for you?
A: I did a program there last summer called “Do-It,” and it’s for people with disabilities who are college bound. I lived on campus for two weeks and I just really liked it. It is a really accessible school compared to other schools I have visited. I’m going to be living on campus.
Q: Will this be your first time living away from home?
A: Yes. I’m nervous to figure things out, like caregivers, but after that’s figured out I’m really excited.
Q: What was the “Do-It” program like?
A: We did seminars. It’s about technology and science and how to adapt them to people with disabilities. It’s basically about networking, meeting people and using your resources.
Q: Do you have a big family?
A: I have a brother and a sister and my mom and dad. My sister is 16, she goes here. We get along.
Q: When you’re not in school what do you like to do?
A: I like to hang out with friends, go to the mall, go to movies, go to concerts.
Q: Is there a movie you’ve seen recently that you would recommend?
A: Not “Pirates of the Caribbean 4.” I went to see the new one and it was awful. I was really disappointed. I love Johnny Depp. He was funny in it, but without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley it was weird.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I’m going to Hawaii for my graduation trip with my best friend, and I’m doing “Do-It” again this summer, so that’s pretty much my entire July. I’m excited because I get an extra long summer because school doesn’t start until the end of September.
Q: What part of Hawaii are you visiting?
A: We’re going to Waikiki. I get to swim with dolphins.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
A: Graduating college. I want to get my master’s (degree). I want to be a clinical psychologist. That’s my goal right now.
