Cheesed off

Behold the power of curds: Angered over the increase in the price of cottage cheese, Israelis, who consider the diary product to be the most “Israeli” of foods, threatened a boycott on Facebook. More than 105,000 joined the online boycott, and diary companies relented, cutting prices 25 percent (Page A5).

But the dairy companies raised prices again when they learned that all 105,000 people thought they were just playing FarmVille.

“I’ve got a bad feeling about this”: If you’ve ever been stuck for a snappy retort, an entertainment writer suggests stealing a line from a favorite movie, such as Dirty Harry’s “You have to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?” (Page D2).

One word of warning: Young fathers might want to make sparing use of dialogue from Disney’s princess movies, particularly among their buddies.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1946, the bikini, designed by French automobile engineer Louis Reard, was introduced during a fashion show in Paris (Page A2).

But Reard made a tactical error; when he couldn’t find a model who would wear the skimpy swimsuit, he donned the bikini himself, setting back the industry for years.
