Saving it for later

In the running by not running: The Seattle Mariners scored in uncharacteristic fashion Tuesday night, winning 4-2 over the equally anemic Oakland A’s, improving to 43-43.
If by August both teams, each with the lowest team batting averages in both leagues, are out of the running for the American League West, either might still win the Baseball Equipment Managers Association’s Conservation Award for saving wear and tear on bats, balls and home plates.

These boots were made for locking: Parking ticket scofflaws in Seattle could find themselves with a new auto accessory, a “boot” locked to a wheel that immobilizes the vehicle until all parking tickets are paid along with a $145 fee to remove the boot.
Of course, if it’s a really good parking spot, you might just want to leave your car there and walk.

Speaking of footwear: President Barack Obama, D-Tweedledee, and GOP members in the House and Senate, R-Tweedledum, continued their game of chicken over the U.S. debt limit, each accusing the other of refusing to compromise as the government edged closer to default.
Frustrated Americans descended on Washington, D.C., attaching locking boots to the president and each member of Congress until a deal is reached.
