The Tips traded veteran winger Campbell Elynuik to Regina this morning. Everett received a sixth-round pick in the 2012 bantam draft in return.
Elynuik, who’s entering his 19-year-old season, played two seasons with the Tips. Last season the combative 6-foot-4 Elynuik compiled three goals, tw
o assists and 54 penalty minutes in 28 games as he dealt with injury issues. He nevertheless earned an invitation to rookie camp with the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
Everett general manager Doug Soetaert said he made the deal because with the Tips going younger this season, Elynuik wouldn’t have received the type of ice time he needed. He expects Elynuik to get a better opportunity with Regina.
Elynuik is a player with tools whose career never really got on track with Everett. This gives him something of a fresh start to hopefully get things going in the right direction. It also further opens the door for 19-year-old training camp invitee Jesse Mychan to potentially make the team.
