First cuts announced, Scott MacDonald among them

Published 6:34 pm Saturday, August 27, 2011

The Silvertips announced their first round of cuts this evening following today’s action. The big name on the list is overage winger Scott MacDonald. MacDonald spent the better part of the past two seasons with Everett, last season scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists in 69 games.

MacDonald was one of four overagers in camp competing for three roster spots, so he was deemed the odd-man out. That leaves forwards Tyler Maxwell and Josh Birkholz and defenseman Brennan Yadlowski as Everett’s apparent overagers for this season. There is, however, still an outside chance that Landon Ferraro is sent back to Everett by the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings.

MacDonald was the second veteran winger the Tips bid farewell to today, along with Campbell Elynuik being traded to Regina. So Everett’s transition continues.

As for the rest of the list, there aren’t really any surprises. More interesting will be seeing who’s still around following Sunday’s Green vs. White game.
