Swifts are back:

Vaux’s Swifts, the small birds that like to spend the night in Frank Wagner Elementary School’s chimney, are back.

You can see thousands of them gathering at the school and flying inside the 4-square-foot chimney. They usually start appearing one hour before dusk.

People can also attend the annual Monroe Swift Night Out, scheduled from 4 p.m. to dusk on Sept. 10, with talks about the birds and food. Wagner Elementary is at 639 W. Main St., Monroe. For more information, go to monroeswifts.org.

Learn about lighthouses: Author and historian Elinor DeWire is scheduled to speak about the lighthouses of Greece at the Mukilteo Historical Society meeting. The meeting is at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Fowler Room at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. All are welcome.

Mingle, eat and shop: Mill Creek Christian Women’s Connection luncheon is planned for Sept. 15 at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive. The cost of the buffet lunch is $20. Attendees will get a chance to buy products from local businesses that will be represented at the event. Reservations are required by noon Sept. 13. Connie, 425-774-4571 or millcreekcwc@yahoo.com.
