MUKILTEO — For the first week of practice, Stanwood exchange student Gergo Muller had been taking it to his teammates on the Spartan boys tennis team.

Thursday he found out how good he was against a different opponent.

Muller beat Kamiak No. 1 singles and All-Wesco player Andrew Lee 6-4, 6-2 at Kamiak High School. The Knights won the war, though, beating Stanwood 5-2 in the team competition.

“We didn’t know what to expect, but he’s a very good player,” Kamiak head coach Victor Alinen said. “After the first set I told Andrew to attack his backhand — it seemed like that was his weakness — but the kid came out on fire after that.

“It was his best shot,” Alinen said with a laugh.

Andrew’s brother Dominic Lee came back after losing the first set to beat Eric Saekow and help Kamiak sweep the rest of the singles.
