Kamiak’s Berg to miss tonight’s game vs. Lake Stevens

Kamiak quarterback Anthony Berg, who sat out last week’s game against Stanwood, will not play in tonight’s game against another Wesco power, Lake Stevens.

Kamiak head coach Dan Mack said Berg suffered a slight tear of his miniscus in his knee during a practice in August. He underwent a minor surgery two weeks ago to repair it and even though his rehab is ahead of schedule he’ll miss at least one more game.

“Obviously it affects some of the things we’re going to do (tonight),” Mack said of Berg being out. “Anthony knows our offense so well and understands it. He’s our general.”

Berg said that he’ll go to the doctor on Monday to see if he can play next Friday against Monroe. If he can’t play, he’s confident he’ll be cleared to play against Jackson in two weeks.

Last Friday night Brett Ludeman filled in for Berg and guided the Knights to a 27-7 win.

“Brett is coming along great and we have total confidence in him,” Mack said.

Berg had never missed a football game prior to Friday and said the experience was hard. But the senior does see a silver lining.

“I think there are a lot of positives in this,” said Berg. “It makes everyone around me better. The defense stepped it up and we had the ground-and-pound going, so there are some good things from it.”
