Everett finishes preseason with a win

The Silvertips wrapped up their preseason schedule by winning 4-1 at Seattle tonight. The notable things from the gamesheet include:

– Everett outshot Seattle 14-3 in the third period. That was a complete reversal from the previous night, when the Tips were outshot 17-4 in the third in a 4-2 loss to Vancouver.

– 16-year-old winger Michael Bell had his first goal and first assist for the team as he bids to grab one of the final roster spots.

– Luke Siemens went the distance in goal for the second straight night, making 23 saves. He seems firmly ensconced as the man for Everett while nominal No. 1 Kent Simpson is unavailable.

The Tips finished the preseason 3-4, which isn’t bad for a team that’s rebuilding. Josh Winquist and Ryan Murray ended up leading the team in preseason scoring with seven points apiece, though Murray played one fewer game. Everett scored 25 games in its seven preseason contests, which is promising considering the biggest question facing the Tips entering the season is whether they can score. Everett also allowed 26 goals, which is probably a little troubling.

The games begin for real next Friday when the Tips open the season at Portland.
