Walters to miss season opener

The WHL handed Tips defenseman Nick Walters a two-game suspension today, meaning Walters will miss the season opener Friday in Portland.
Walters was suspended indefinitely by the league after being assessed a major penalty for checking to the head during last Friday’s 4-2 exhibition loss to Vancouver. He sat out Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Seattle in Everett’s exhibition finale, but now he’ll have to miss one more.
Walters will be eligible to return for Saturday’s home opener against Kelowna.
