Everett: Comment on construction project
The people behind a construction project at 501 E. Marine View Drive are asking the city to allow them to add an additional 150,000 cubic yards of fill material to the site than originally planned.
That would bring the finished grade of the land up to 50 feet rather than the 32 feet approved in the original application.
Future phases of the project also would place additional fill within a portion of the E. Marine View Drive right-of-way and city-owned park property, both of which abut the site.
An environmental checklist, studies and other information necessary to analyze the impacts of this proposal are on file with the Everett Planning and Community Development Department.
Send written comments on the application by Oct. 17 to Everett Planning Department, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Suite 8-A, Everett.

Firefighters support cancer awareness
Everett firefighters plan to don special duty shirts next week as part of a “Supporting Cancer Awareness” campaign.
The campaign, which is organized by the firefighter’s Local 46, coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, union president Paul Gagnon said.
The black shirts have pink lettering and a “For A Cure” logo. The firefighters hope that wearing the shirts will get people thinking about breast cancer, Gagnon said.
Lynnwood: County budget forum today
Learn more about Snohomish County’s 2012 budget process at a Lynnwood-area meeting today.
The meeting is one of two remaining this week.
It’s scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Alderwood Water District, 3626 156th St. SW, Lynnwood. That’s followed at the same time Wednesday by a meeting at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
The event will give people a chance to give their opinions to County Council members on spending priorities.

Edmonds: Free HIV tests at EdCC today
The Snohomish Health District will offer free HIV testing at Edmonds Community College on Tuesday to students and others who are at risk for HIV infection. The local public health agency will provide information and free anonymous or confidential HIV “rapid” tests to those at high-risk for the disease. Rapid HIV tests produce results in 20 minutes and will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Resources Fair in the courtyard between Buildings 1 and 9 at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave.
Mukilteo: Author of book on city to speak
Steve Bertrand, author of the book, “Mukilteo,” is scheduled to speak Thursday at the Mukilteo Historical Society meeting. The book is part of the Images of America series.
The meeting is at 7:15 p.m. in the Fowler Room of Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. The public is invited.
