Prep tennis: Stanwood’s Muller first in singles in North

STANWOOD — Stanwood’s Gergo Muller defeated Corey Coombs of Marysville-Pilchuck in straight sets to win the Wesco North boys singles title Wednesday at Stanwood H.S. The three games Muller lost to Coombs in the second set were his only setbacks in the tournament.

Semifinals– Gergo Muller (Stan) def. Andrew Ivelia (Sno) 6-0 6-0; Corey Coombs (MP) def. Howard Chen (Mon) 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Final– Muller def. Coombs 6-0, 6-3. Consolation– Alex Thompson (LS) def. Jared Randall (MP) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4; Sean Dolan (Stan) def. Jeremy King (Arl) 6-0, 6-4; Chen def. Thompson 6-1, 6-1; Ivelia def. Dolan 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Doubles

Semifinals– Scott-Martinson (Sno) def. Swenson-Medlicott (Stan) 6-3, 7-6; Wolf-Saekow (Stan) def. Storz-Hansen (LS) 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. Final– Scott-Martinson def. Wolf-Saekow 6-4, 6-3. Consolation–Sarver-Bradford (Arl) def Arevalo-Schultz (LS) 6-4, 6-2; Perron-Videlia (Sno) def. Lindquist-Bruton (Mon) 6-2, 7-6; Sarver-Bradford def. Storz-Hansen 6-3, 3-6, 6-4; Swenson-Medlicott def. Perron-Videlia 6-2, 6-2. Swenson-Medlicott took third, having defeated Sarver-Bradford in the main draw.
