FEDERAL WAY — Everett moved one step closer to its season-long goal of a 3A girls soccer state title with a 1-0 victory over Decatur on Wednesday night.
Junior midfielder Bailey McMullen scored in the 12th minute off an assist from senior captain Khadija Tarver. Tarver played a ball over the top of the Decatur defense that McMullen was able to run onto. McMullen did the rest, beating the Decatur keeper with a shot into the bottom corner of the net from about 12 yards out.
“The defense did great. We got an early goal and it was important for them to hold on,” Everett head coach Kosta Pitharoulis said. “They played good defense in the back and played smart. They really did a great job.”
Everett (16-1-1 overall) keeper C.J. Shavers had 10 saves. The Seagulls face Liberty on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
