LACEY — Jackson knew defending its 4A volleyball state championship was going to be a tall order.
The Timberwolves were not only without last year’s tournament MVP Leigh-Anne Hataaja, but powerhouses like Kentwood and Olympia were taking aim at the defending champs. A year after beating Issaquah in straight sets for its first state volleyball title, the Timberwolves lost twice Saturday to settle for fourth place
Jackson opened the day with a four-set loss to Olympia by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-20 and 28-26. The fourth set ended in an epic back-and-forth exchange before the Lady Bears won the set and the match.
In the third-place game, Jacksson lost in five sets to Curtis by scores of 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, 26-24 and 15-12.
