Meadowdale wins Scoop wrestling title

Lynnwood had five individual champions compared to Meadowdale’s three, but the Mavericks came out on top at the Scoop Invitational at Jackson High School.
Meadowdale finished with 155.5 points, followed by Lynnwood with 149.5 and Marysville Getchell with 126, which rounded out the top three. Host Jackson finished fourth with 110 points.
Hunter Lord (152 pounds), Alex Basabe (120), Matthew Calkins (126), Zack Calkins (132) and Johah Simon (106) all were individual champions for Lynnwood.
In the 106-pound bout Simon took on Jackson’s Jordan Funston, winning the 9-3 decision.
Meadowdale took titles at 138 (Dustin Diemond), 145 (Morgan Smith) and 195 pounds (Ciaran Ball) on its way to the team championship.Other local winners included Edmonds-Woodway’s Kris Delaney, who was victorious in the 220-pound weight class.
