It’s possible that while the University of Washington Huskies are in San Antonio on Dec. 29 playing in the Valero Alamo Bowl, back home a local recruit will be committing to play for the Huskies next season.

It’s also possible he could declare his intentions to play in the Midwest.

Mariner star running back KeiVarae Russell is set to decide between his final two choices, UW and Notre Dame, next week sometime. Russell is planning on announcing his decision at Mariner High School either Wednesday (Dec. 28) or Thursday (Dec. 29) around noon.

“I feel shocked that the time of going through the process is over,” Russell said in a text message Monday night. “Then again, extremely relieved because it was very stressful.”

Russell took an official visit to UW the weekend of Dec. 9. He visited the Notre Dame campus in October. His final five schools also included Oregon, California and the University of Southern California.

Several key factors were important to Russell when making his decision, such as playing time, academics and feeling comfortable at his future university. The Class of 2012 member is thinking about majoring in business.

“Took notes on what schools fit me the best and which ones would benefit me in the long run, as far as football and opportunities outside of football,” Russell said.

Russell will be playing in the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 7, in the same Alamo Bowl the Huskies will have competed in a little over a week before. Is that a hint about his future destination?

“Wait and see,” Russell said.
