LYNNWOOD — Michael Washington Jr. scored with 6 seconds remaining to put Oak Harbor ahead and Meadowdale was unable to connect in the final seconds as the Wildcats held on to beat the Mavericks 43-42 in a Wesco 3A game Thursday night.
Oak Harbor led by 10 early in the third quarter, but the Mavericks were able to battle back and make a game of it in part because of the defense of Charlie White, who finished with nine rebounds and two steals and held Washington to just three field goals in the second half.
After Washington’s go-ahead basket, Meadowdale had a shot to retake the lead. But Meadowdale missed a 3-point attempt with 2 seconds left and Spencer Linton’s putback was off the mark.
Though he didn’t hit the buzzer beater, Linton led all scorers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.
