MILL CREEK — In a battle between first and second place teams in the Wesco South, Jackson was able to prevail on its own home floor on Friday night, defeating Edmonds-Woodway 62-43.
The saving grace for the Warriors was the fact they remain the Wesco South No. 2 seed going into the 4A District 1 tournament due to a tiebreaker. Edmonds-Woodway drew a better number than Kamiak at a random draw prior to the beginning of the season.
The Timberwolves were led on this night by the all around play of sophomore forward Jason Todd, who finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Rebounding seemed to be one of the key factors in the game as Jackson outrebounded Edmonds-Woodway 43-23, including 15 offensive rebounds. The second key, according to Jackson coach Steve Johnson, was his team’s ability to figure out the E-W zone in the second half.
“We went back-and-forth, we slowed the game down at some points and figured out their zone on the perimeter,” Johnson said. “At some points we were able to force the ball inside, get some fast break points, and get points in transition.”
Along with the play of Todd, Jackson was aided by senior forward Andrew Dodd’s nine points and seven rebounds.
