3A GIRLS STATE: Game previews

FRANKLIN (22-3) vs. KAMIAKIN (23-0)

Thursday, 3:45 p.m. at Tacoma Dome

The Braves from Kennewick and Prairie are the favorites in the tournament, but the Quakers are no slouches. This looks to be the best game of the 3A girls state quarterfinals as the SeaKing District champs take on unbeaten Kamiakin, which beat Lakes by 30 points in the state regionals. The matchup to watch is Franklin’s Janee Lewis against Kamiakin’s Khadidja Toure.

SHORECREST (20-4) vs. CLEVELAND (20-6)

Thursday, 5:30 p.m. at Tacoma Dome

The Scots look to avenge their loss to Cleveland in the 2010 state tournament. The matchup of points guards Bri Lasconia and Myzhanique Ladd could be a key to the game.

LAKESIDE (20-7) vs. PRAIRIE (24-1)

Thursday, 7:15 p.m. at Tacoma Dome

Lakeside got the toughest draw in this tournament. The Falcons from Brush Prairie finished second in the state tournament a year ago and return most of their team, including Heather Corral, Megan Lindsley and Cori Woodward. If the Lions are to pull the huge upset, they’ll need big games from Danielle Estell and Kaylee Best.

UNIVERSITY (16-7) vs. SEATTLE PREP (21-6)

Thursday, 9 p.m. at Tacoma Dome

If their Metro League cohorts got the toughest draws, the Panthers may have received the most welcome assist Sunday. Seattle Prep, which finished third in the SeaKing District tournament, gets a University team that has the worst record in the 3A state tournament and barely beat fellow Greater Spokane League rival Shadle Park in the state regionals.
