Special Congressional election means State will pay for part of election

The special election to fill the last few weeks of Congressman Jay Inslee’s term means that the state will reimburse Snohomish County and two other counties for part of the costs of the August and November elections.
The counties pay most of the costs of primary and general elections, but any entity calling a special election must pay for that portion of election costs.
Voters in South Snohomish County, north King County and the Bainbridge Island part of Kitsap County will vote in the August primary and November general elections on filling the last few weeks of Congressman Jay Inslee’s term in the old 1st Congressional District at the same time they vote for full terms in their new congressional districts – the 2nd for Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Brier; the 7th for Edmonds and Woodway.
The position has been vacant since Inslee resigned in March to run for governor.
