Business Expo in Monroe

The Recreation Business Expo, hosted by the Port-to-Pass Partners and the City of Sultan, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. The event is designed to connect manufacturers, retail businesses and government agencies in order to bring more customers and economic expansion to the region. The expo is free but seating is limited.

Sultan Ace Hardware grand opening April 27-29

Sultan Ace Hardware celebrates its grand opening April 27-29. An official ribbon cutting, hosted by the City of Sultan, will take place at 11:30 a.m. April 28. Each day’s festivities begin at 8 a.m. and will include free refreshments, live entertainment, manufacturer’s representatives, master gardeners, kids’ crafts, spin-to-win prizes and more.

A day of health and exercise

Stanwood’s Movement Arts Studio will hold a community health day at 10 a.m. April 29. The event features a full day of free classes including, yoga, tai chi, pilates and bellydance. All classes are first-come, first-serve.

Offer input on fair housing

The Snohomish County Human Services Department is hosting three forums in May to obtain community input on fair housing. The events on May 2 are located at the Stillaguamish Senior Center in Arlington and the Monroe Fire Department in Monroe. The third event is May 3 at the Volunteers of America Learning Center in Lynnwood.

The fourth annual Women’s Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5 at Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Admission is free. More than 50 local businesses will be present. Learn about EvCC aviation technician program

An information session about Everett Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technician School and careers in aviation maintenance is at 2:30 p.m. May 10. The school is one of only about 150 nationwide that train airframe and powerplant mechanics. The monthly information session is required for program admittance.

Free document shredding, cell-phone recycling

Harbour Pointe Retirement Community will hold a free Secure Your ID Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 at 10200 Harbour Place with document shredding and cell phone recycling.

This event is co-sponsored by the Better Business Bureau and Acey’s Painting, Mukilteo. The public may drop off up to three grocery bags or boxes of documents to be securely shredded on site (no cardboard or three-ring binders). Cell phones will be safely recycled courtesy of HopeLine and will be wiped of stored data. Acey’s Painting and Harbour Pointe Retirement Community will provide coffee and treats in the north parking lot at 10200 Harbour Place (behind Walgreen’s).

Session gives managers HR basics

It’s not just human resources professionals who need to know HR basics — all managers who supervise employees need to know HR management basics. All Things HR of Lynnwood has taken its HR101 course and modified it for general managers, supervisors and leads into a six-hour course covering recruiting and on-boarding of employees, how to manage your employee’s performance, progressive discipline, performance management and steps for termination.

What’s up with the Northwest economy?

Economists will discuss whether the new Pacific Northwest economy is leaner, meaner and greener during the 2012 Pacific Northwest Regional Economic Conference to take place May 17 and 18 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle.

Topics include the North American economic outlook, implications of rising income disparity on U.S. economic development, cross-border issues concerning coal terminals and pipelines, regional labor markets, Washington and British Columbia ferry financing, the wine industry, the new Census Bureau regional data center at UW, energy and reclamation, road tolling and the housing market.

Machinists poker tournament to benefit guide dogs

Machinists Union Local Lodge 751-C will hold the All In for Guide Dogs Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament from 3 to 7 p.m. June 2 at the Tulalip Resort Casino. Entry forms are available at all union halls operated by Machinists Union District Lodge 751 in the Puget Sound area, including the Everett Hall at 8729 Airport Road. This is the lodge’s first charity poker tournament.
