Head to Arlington for a double dose of magic

Published 3:27 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Magic is in the air this weekend in Arlington where families can choose from two magic shows.

Magician Joey Pipia promises no smoke or mirrors in his show, just wonder and amazement during his 60-minute show, “The Magic Chamber,” on Saturday in Arlington.

“The magic will happen literally inches away from your eyes,” Pipia said in a prepared statement.

This is family friendly but geared toward grown-ups. he said.

Pepia said some kids will enjoy it to, but the show mirrors vaudeville type magic acts and is probably not for 6-year-olds.

“The Magic Chamber” starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fogdog Gallery, 233 N. Olympic Ave., Arlington.

Tickets are $20 and may be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com, or in person at Fogdog. For more information on the show go to www.joeypipia.com.

“The Award Winning Magic and Comedy of Bruce Meyers”: Bruce Meyers just recently received a new award in Vancouver, B.C., where he was named the “2012 Best Comedy Magician.”

He adds that accolade to his other monikers: “Mathegician of The Year” and in 2011 the “Children’s Magician of The Year.”

Original material, skill and his entertaining presentation helped him earn these titles.

It doesn’t hurt that Meyers is highly confident on stage because he has thousands of performances under his belt.

He’s also had help from his wife, Jennifer.

The duo can make doves appear. Roses can come showering down from the sky and tables can float.

“The Award Winning Magic and Comedy of Bruce Meyers” begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., Arlington.

Tickets are $10. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society via Relay for Life of Arlington.

Call 425-387-5180 for tickets or buy them at the door on the day of the performance.
