Catching up with Tyler Maxwell

I just got off the phone with former Tips winger Tyler Maxwell. Everett’s all-time leading career goal scorer, who was traded to Edmonton in November, just had his season end when the Oil Kings were eliminated from the Memorial Cup on Thursday night.
A full story about Maxwell’s experiences with Edmonton, winning the WHL championship, and playing in the Memorial Cup will be coming early next week after all the state high school stuff is out of the way. However, there is one significant piece of news that warrants immediate mention. Maxwell has signed to play professionally with Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian elite league. It’s great that Maxwell is getting the opportunity to take the next step in his hockey career, and he’s hoping it will help lead to the NHL one day.
Red Bull Salzburg gets its season going in July, so Maxwell won’t have much of an offseason. However, he’s still hoping to get back to Everett in early July for his youth camp. Others Maxwell said would be working the camp include former Tips Zack Dailey and Paul Sohor, along with his Edmonton teammate Rhett Rachinski.
