EDMONDS — Edmonds-Woodway girls soccer coach Bill LeCompte didn’t think he said anything particularly inspiring at halftime, but his team apparently disagreed.

The Warriors came out after the break and scored three goals in the first six minutes of the second half on their way to a 3-0 Wesco 4A South win over Kamiak Tuesday night at Edmonds Stadium.

“It was just getting them to refocus on what we do well,” LeCompte said. “It wasn’t necessarily an awe-inspiring speech at halftime. It was just, ‘we’re fine. We need to focus on playing the way we’re capable of playing.’”

Madison Schultz started the scoring in the 42nd minute, and was followed quickly by a goal by Lindsey Aranda less than a minute later — that Schultz assisted on. Schultz finished up the scoring burst soon after with the last goal of the game in the 46th minute.

“We settled down,” LeCompte said. “We had a pretty good first half, but got caught up and did somethings we didn’t want to be doing, like trying to press too hard.

“…We just went out and executed.”

LeCompte praised his defense, saying it did an “exceptional job.” It, coupled with sophomore goalkeeper Kiera Towell, has not allowed a goal in the Warriors’ first three games.

The win means Edmonds-Woodway remains at the top of the Wesco 4A South standings as the lone unbeaten team remaining in the conference. LeCompte said that could prove helpful later on in the season, when he expects the league to get a little hectic.

“It means a lot, because really you’ve got to make some positive thigns happen when you have a chance,” LeCompte said. “It’s a great way to start because in the South I think it’s going to be a scramble at the end of the season to see who’s on top, and if we can help ourselves out in the first month of the season that would be a good thing.”
