The Timberwolves running back/quarterback rushed for 137 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns and the game-winning two-point conversion in the Timberwolves’ 36-34 win over the Warriors.
Counting the votes: Eds. note: A new feature of our football player of the week will show how the fans and Herald staffers voted. The fans chose Sultan running back Bryce MacDicken after his strong performance in a win over Granite Falls. Herald writers Aaron Lommers, David Krueger and Jon Saperstein voted for Austin Joyner, Justin Peterson and Baker-Bruce, respectively, leaving it to Herald prep editor to break the tie. The fact Baker-Bruce III was key in his team’s come-from-behind win locked up the victory, said Swaney.

The Hawks setter had 10 kills, 16 assists and six digs in a sweep of Cascade and had 19 assists in a five-set victory over Edmonds-Woodway as Mountlake Terrace beat two 4A teams to remain unbeaten.

Cascade | Girls soccer
The Bruins goalkeeper recorded two shutouts last week, including a double-overtime scoreless tie with South 4A rival Jackson. Leupold backed it up two days later with another shutout in Cascade’s 1-0 win over Snohomish as the Bruins remained in second place.

Jackson | Girls swimming
The senior swimmer won the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 backstroke in state-qualifying times as the Timberwolves beat fellow-Everett School District schools Cascade and Everett. McKee won the 50 free in 25.00 and the 100 backstroke in 58.64.

Edmonds-Woodway | Boys tennis
The Warriors No. 2 singles player won both of his matches in Edmonds-Woodway’s 4-3 victories over Snohomish and Lake Stevens, and moved up to No. 1 singles to beat Lynnwood’s Ryan Tsuji, improving to 5-1 as a singles player this season.

Oak Harbor | Boys cross country
The Wildcats harrier finished fourth in the 5,000-meter hard course race at the Three Course Challenge in Seaside, Ore., and won the boys race at the Oak Harbor cross country meet at city Beach Park earlier in the week.

The Timberwolves runner took first place by 14 seconds over teammate Jessica Rawlins as Jackson defeated Edmonds-Woodway and Marysville Getchell in a meet last week.
