SHORELINE — Using contributions from most of their players and strong play from Alysanna Van Dyke, King’s was able to defeat Cedarcrest in a battle of the top two teams in the Cascade Conference 25-13, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23.

Both teams came into the game with perfect records, but the young Knights squad seemed to make adjustments and impress first-year head coach Jeff Fransen.

“We graduated nine seniors last year,” said Fransen. “But (tonight) we got a lot of contributions overall. We’re a really strong young team.”

Van Dyke, a junior, finished with 22 kills, 8 digs and two aces on the night.

“Alysanne, did really well in the third and fourth sets,” said Fransen. “All eight of her swings in the third set were kills, and she had seven more in the fourth. She was really impressive.”

Fransen also credited the Red Wolves defenders for keeping it close in the fifth and deciding set before King’s ultimately came away with the victory.

“Cedarcrest’s back defenders scored a lot of digs,” added Fransen. “We started the game out by coming at them with a little bit of power, then we made a slight off-beat adjustment which seemed to hold (their defenders) off.”

Van Dyke was assisted by Rachel Morinaga, who would finish with 29 assists and four digs, and Mady De Genner, who added seven kills, five digs and three aces. At King’s H.S.
