EVERETT — Edmonds-Woodway had a big third quarter, turning a one-point halftime lead into a 10-point gap that Mariner couldn’t come back from in a 4A South win. Travis Bakken, Jason Smarr and Henry Olson combined for 43 of the Warriors’ 69 points.
Mariner’s Bayek Tutlam and Puma Purewal had big nights, with Tutlam scoring 23 in the game and hitting three 3-pointers and Purewal scoring 11 and three 3s. The Marauders fought back to within seven in the fourth quarter, but a big Edmonds-Woodway 3 made it 10 again. The Warriors shot 8-for-9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, making it hard for Mariner to get back in it.
Mariner’s Ali Al-Azadi also suffered an injury with 38 seconds left in the game. According to Marauders head coach Tom Jensen, Azadi came down hard on his hip. He was taken to the hospital, but Jensen had not yet heard a report as to the seriousness of the injury.
