Kerry should aim advice at home

If the adage “A day without laughter is like a day without sunshine” is true, then it was great to get in a belly laugh by 7:10 Sunday morning. The unlikely source: the TV news.

“Meet the Press” had finished its hour of anguish over the sequestration, saying it was proof that our government is broken since our elected leaders refuse to work together for the good of the nation.

Then came a King 5 news report: Secretary of State John Kerry had met with President Morsi of Egypt. Kerry urged Morsi to exert leadership in bringing the different political parties in Egypt together in order to improve Egypt’s economy.

The cause of my laughter was the irony of Kerry’s remarks. In Egypt, some of the political parties, if in power, will literally execute all people who oppose their agenda. Yet, Kerry lectures Morsi about “working together.”

Meanwhile, President Obama and our Congress (who are not risking their very lives if they work together) cannot unite to develop policies to improve the USA’s economy.

So Kerry admonished President Morsi to do what President Obama’s leadership cannot achieve here at home.

The words of the 20th century humorist, Will Rogers, still ring true: Politicians can do more funny things naturally than I can think of to do purposely. And I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.
