Super Kid: Glacier Peak senior is a man of many talents

Q: What is your schedule like?

A: I just finished spring musical, so now I work Fred Meyer in Mill Creek and I have three AP classes: Biology, Literature and Statistics. I have a 3.99 GPA. I have had five AP classes between my junior and senior years.

Q: What are your plans for college?

A: I am going to Western Washington University. I am tied up in whether I should seek a degree on business management or pursuing a career in high school teaching.

Q: What makes you undecided?

A: Because at Fred Meyer, I am in a position where I can work my way up. With a management degree, I would go to a higher level. I am thinking teaching because I am good at explaining things and I think it would be a good career because it would affect a lot of people.

Q: Why did you choose Western?

A: They have smaller class size, it has a beautiful campus and I chose Western over UW because I wanted to be taught by the teacher instead of the assistant, because UW is a research college. Also, Western was cheaper.

Q: What sports do you practice?

A: I played football all of my four years of high school and two years of middle school. I played the offensive line and outside linebacker.

Q: You also participated in the musical “Bye Bye Birdie.” Why did you become interested in the play?

A: I have always been interested in the arts. A lot of people encouraged me to audition. My parents and English teacher encouraged me and a friend was really encouraging me to try it. I auditioned and I made it. It was a good form of peer pressure.

I definitely want to do something with theater. Don’t know where, but I would be interested in pursuing because it’s fun, but I need to do a lot of work. But, at the same time, I would like to do something related to coaching football, but I don’t know if I can pursue both things.

Q: You have also written poetry. I was told you read one you wrote for the Senior Mother Tea Friday event.

A: I have been writing poetry in the past, but it’s the first time I shared it with anyone.

Q: Why do you like writing poetry?

A: It’s one of the most intense mediums where we can express our feelings. I have huge appreciation of poetry because of my AP literature class because we study literary greats like Shakespeare, Dante and all these fantastic writers who use poetry to explain their feelings and social circumstances of where they lived.

Q: Who is your favorite poet?

A: Currently, John Donne because he is a metaphysical poet and he is considered one of the most difficult poets to understand, that’s why I like him. His poetry is so complex.

Q: You are involved in clubs and events relating to academics, arts and sports. Are you trying to be a Renaissance Man?

A: I do try to be one. I try to do the best in everything I do.
