Khaira, Jost and more

The Silvertips held their first practice since the end of training camp Tuesday afternoon at Comcast Arena. It was quite the crowd, as at times there were as many as 36 players on the ice simultaneously. Anyway, here’s some notes from today’s practice.
– Jujhar Khaira is back. The talented 19-year-old power forward, who left Michigan Tech during the offseason, participated in just one practice during training camp before heading back home to Surrey, B.C. However, he’s back to practice with the team throughout the week, though he won’t play in any games this weekend at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament. Khaira, of course, is headed to camp with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers beginning next week.
– Also practicing the rest of the week with the Tips is center Tyson Jost. Jost, Everett’s first-round pick in this year’s bantam draft, was a late arrival to training camp, not landing in Everett until Sunday because of conflicts with other hockey training camps. Jost hasn’t signed with the Tips yet, and he said he’s only in town through Thursday. However, he sounded very enthusiastic about what he’s seen from Everett so far.
– Everett had four veterans who sat out Sunday’s Green vs. Grey game because of injuries: forwards Manraj Hayer, Ty Mappin and Mitch Skapski and defenseman Micheal Zipp. Three of those were back on the ice today as Hayer, Mappin and Skapski all took part in practice.
– The first exhibition games are this weekend at the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament. Here’s the schedule, in case you missed it.
