YAKIMA — The Darrington volleyball team won two matches at the 2B state tournament on Friday to advance to the semifinals.

The Loggers swept Adna 25-0, 25-17, 25-21 in an opening-round match and then beat Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in four sets in a quarterfinal contest.

Amy Miles had an impressive first day for Darrington, recording 27 kills and three blocks over the two matches.

“Amy was spectacular in the hitting game and her back row play was exceptional,” said Loggers head coach Greg Powell. “She’s definitely one of the best athletes at the state tournament.”

Along with Miles, the Loggers also received strong serving in both wins. Monica Franke was 15-for-15 against Adna and Baleigh Rumsey was 18-for-18 in the 25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16 win over Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

“We served really tough (versus Adna),” said Powell. “…Lind was a really strong net team, taller than us, but we were able to run our offense quicker and our serving game and net play was good as well. We had 15 service aces, which at a state match is a ton.”

Darrington (17-4) will play Colfax today at 1 p.m. for a berth in the 7 p.m. championship match. The top-ranked Bulldogs (24-0) are undefeated this season and will present a stiff test for the Loggers.

“It’ll be a good challenge,” said Powell. “They have very strong net play and no real weaknesses. We’ll bring our game and see what happens.”
