EDMONDS — Arlington’s team speed and back-to-front buildup caused Edmonds-Woodway problems all over the field on Thursday night as the Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season with a 4-0 victory in Wesco 3A action.
Arlington led 2-0 at halftime, but that lead quickly grew in the 47th minute as McKenzie Buell and Olivia Larson scored in quick succession to put the Warriors in a huge hole.
“We were really fast out of the back and our transitions were very quick,” Arlington coach Nathan Davis said. “Bre (Morren) and Olivia are very dangerous and created havoc for them all over the back of the field.”
Edmonds-Woodway coach Bill LeCompte said that his defense had a tough time matching the Eagles’ quickness and efficiency on the counter-attack.
“We did a poor job trying to slow them down,” LeCompte said. “We had some opportunities but just didn’t capitalize on them. Things snowballed out of control in the second half when we gave up those two quick ones.”
Davis said Arlington was amped up for Thursday’s match.
“Our girls knew that Edmonds-Woodway was going to be outstanding and they were up for the challenge,” he said. “We understand that there’s a long way to go, but they measured themselves up against Edmonds-Woodway. It was a big game and we were ready to play.”
