EVERETT — Mariner racked up 289 yards rushing, 201 coming from Dyonte Law, and pulled away from Mount Vernon in the third quarter to cement a victory in a Wesco 4A contest at Goddard Stadium on Friday night.
Law carried 24 times for 204 yards and converted a pair of late scores to help the Marauders win their third straight conference game.
Mariner got on the board first when Kyle DiLeonardo hooked up with Greg Whitaker on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but Mount Vernon seized momentum after recovering a Mariner fumble.
The Bulldogs got a 52-yard field goal from Tommy Park after the turnover, and finished the opening drive of the second half with a 3-yard touchdown run by Brandon Hayman to take a 10-7 lead.
That was all Mount Vernon would get, as Law finished consecutive drives with scores to give Mariner the win.
His final touchdown capped an eight-play, 85-yard march at the end of the third quarter to put the Marauders ahead to stay.
Mariner’s defense limited Mount Vernon to 132 yards on the ground after the Bulldogs amassed 306 rushing yards in an overtime loss to Snohomish last week.
