STANWOOD — Sophia Viviano scored both Shorecrest goals, the second coming in the 78th minute, to break the deadlock in a 2-1 Wesco 2A/3A victory for the Scots on Thursday night.

Stanwood freshman Espy Sanchez put the Spartans on top two minutes into the second half on a quick counter-attack, but Viviano tied it three minutes later off a feed from Meghan Wicken.

The two teams exchanged opportunties throughout the second half until Shorecrest began pressuring Stanwood’s defenders higher up the field.

Viviano stripped a clearing ball from a Stanwood player, turned and fired a low shot from the top of the 18-yard box that beat Stanwood keeper Jordynn Perkins to her far post for the game-winner.

“Stanwood came out really strong against us and had really prepared for us,” Shorecrest coach Mindy Dalziel said. “They played very fast and came out at us pretty quickly and had us on our heels a little bit.”

Dalziel said her team had to make an adjustment to the smaller grass field at Stanwood.

“It’s a tough place to play,” she said. “A definite home-field advantage.”

Shorecrest extended its perfect run through the Wesco season to 10 games, and Stanwood fell to 5-4-1, 8-3-2 with the loss.
