Watch Mirco Mueller score his first NHL goal

Former Silvertips defenseman Mirco Mueller scored his first NHL goal (see above video) Thursday night in the San Jose Sharks’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild.

This was Mueller’s ninth game with the Sharks. One more and his rookie contract kicks in. He’s played in 75 percent of San Jose’s games, averaging 18:03 of ice time.

Don’t expect Mueller back in Everett.

Interestingly, Kootenay’s Sam Reinhart, the second-overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, was returned to the Ice by the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres today. Therefore, it looks like the 19-year-old Mueller, the 18th-overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft, will be one of just three underage players from the WHL to stick in the NHL this season, the others being 19-year-old Edmonton forward Curtis Lazar (taken one spot ahead of Mueller by the Ottawa Senators) and 19-year-old Prince Albert forward Leon Draisaitl (third overall this year by the Edmonton Oilers). At least I think that’s everyone, let me know if I missed someone.
