SHORELINE — Carlton McDonald had eight of his 11 points in the first half and A.J. Martinka scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Stanwood’s non-conference 68-54 victory over Shorewood in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Skout Roberson had all six of his points in the first half for the Spartans (1-0) and Quinton Borseth tacked on 10 points and nine rebounds for Stanwood, which led by 20 at halftime.
“We came out from the start and played really well in the first and second quarters to set the tone,” Stanwood coach Zach Ward said. “We had a lot of energy on defense and held them to just three offensive rebounds in the whole first half. We had great defensive intensity and pushed the ball on offense.”
