SHORELINE — After Shorecrest cut an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to just two, Stanwood post Tristan Murphy completed a three point play with 15 seconds remaining to cap off a game-high 28-point performance as the Spartans defeated the Scots 68-63 in a nonleague contest on Wednesday night.

“She’s just a very, very good post player,” Shorecrest head coach Dori Monson said. “She is a very solid post player and she had a great game tonight.”

Murphy scored 14 points in the second quarter to help the Spartans take an eight point lead into halftime. After going scoreless in the third she came back to score 10 points in the final period to lead Stanwood in its season opener.

“We played some man against her, we played some zone. She is just a really good, solid player,” Monson said.

Murphy was matched up in the post with Uju Chibuogwu, who knocked down three 3-pointers and recorded a team-high 27 points and eight rebounds to lead Shorecrest. Wurrie Njadoe added 17 for the Scots.

“I thought she was incredible tonight,” Monson said of Chibuogwu. “She is a post player who is probably our best 3-point shooter and she just played fantastic the entire game.”

Haley Strowbridge scored 17 points and Kaitlyn Larson added 11 for the Spartans.
