Prep baseball: Shorewood’s Oxnevad throws a no-hitter

SHORELINE — In his first start of the season, Shorewood senior pitcher Ian Oxnevad threw a complete game three-hitter, striking out 13 in a 10-0 victory over Glacier Peak.

Against Edmonds-Woodway on Friday, he was even better.

Oxnevad no-hit the Warriors, striking out six and allowing no walks in a 10-0 five-inning victory. Just two Edmonds-Woodway batters reached base, both on Shorewood errors.

“From the outset he had good command of his fastball and really sharp break on his breaking ball,” Shorewood head coach Wyatt Tonkin said.

Tonkin said one of Oxnevad’s strengths is his ability to relax on the mound.

“He’s bigger and stronger (than last year),” Tonkin said. “He had a real good winter working out, but his maturity level is what I’m so pleased with. Things that he can’t control he doesn’t get bothered with. He’s becoming professional about the way he goes about his business. He did an outstanding job.”

Offensively, Shorewood was led by twin brothers Spencer and Harrison Jacobs. Spencer batted 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and, Harrison was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.

“You can just see how much improved they are this year,” Tonkin said of the two brothers. “They are just bigger and stronger and faster. They are just much smarter now about the game.”
