Mew: Help prepare for flood of kittens
It’s kitten season. From spring through late fall, cats give birth and flood area shelters with homeless litters of kittens. The Camano Animal Shelter Association aims to be ready with its annual Little Whiskers Open House, set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at 198 Can Ku Road, Camano Island.
Guests are encouraged to bring a donation from CASA’s kitten wish list, such as kitten-specific wet or dry food, KMR kitten milk replacement formula, kitten feeding bottles or a monetary donation. Learn about kitten fostering, meet adoptable cats and dogs and enter a raffle.

Clean up: Join work parties at local parks
To celebrate Earth Day, Mountlake Terrace is set to hold a volunteer cleanup event from 9 a.m. to noon April 25 at Ballinger Park, 23000 Lakeview Drive. Bring gloves and tools (no power equipment) and help with weed control, picking up litter and debris removal. Groups should register in advance. The City Council will provide lunch for volunteers.

In Marysville, the Adopt A Stream Foundation plans an Earth Day event 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 25 at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road. Plant trees and learn more about how to protect local salmon habitat, making every day Earth Day. Free T-shirts for the first 200 people.

Conserve: Learn environmental living
Learn about green building ideas and how to make a rain garden, hear about Triangle Cove protection efforts, plant a seed and feed a worm bin, tour nature trails and a solar installation — and much more — at the Celebrate Conservation Earth Day event, 3-7 p.m. April 22 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.

Everett Community College offers a variety of activities on its campus for Earth Week, April 20-23. All events are free and open to the public.
*Plant Swap and Sale, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 20 in Whitehorse Hall. Bring plants to trade, take free plants and purchase windowbox succulents and herbs.
*“Meaningful Magic,” 1-2 p.m. April 21 in Baker Hall. James David speaks about recycling, through comedy and magic.
*Drug take-back, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Liberty Hall. Keep chemicals and drugs from harming the environment by bringing expired or unwanted prescription pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medications for free disposal.
*Electronics recycling, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 22 in parking lot F. Computers, printers, cellphones and more.
*“Gardening with Ciscoe,” noon-1 p.m. April 22 in Gray Wolf Hall. Gardening guru Ciscoe Morris shares tips and answers questions.
*Concert, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. outside the Henry M. Jackson Conference Center (or Baker Hall 120 if it rains). Live music by Dubsic and snacks.

Volunteer: Food Fest seeks more than mouths
Food Revolution Snohomish County seeks volunteers to help at the Celebration of Food Festival. The festival, co-sponsored by Edmonds Community College, is a free family event where participants can learn how to grow, purchase and prepare wholesome, local food. The festival will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. May 17 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW.
Volunteers are needed for the set-up team, tear-down team and to help with activities during the festival. Examples include vendor assistance, signage, hospitality, greeters, counters, information table, and clean-up. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Younger volunteers are welcome if accompanied by a parent. Most shifts are four hours.
