Prep baseball: Archbishop Murphy 4, Burlington-Edison 3

ANACORTES —Senior hurler Cole Brandt pitched a complete game and helped Archbishop Murphy punch their ticket to the state playoffs with a victory against Burlington-Edison in the 2A District Tournament on Tuesday night.

Hitting stars for Archbishop Murphy include senior leftfielder Curtis Ponton going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and senior shortstop Sean Clancey’s 2-for-3 and an RBI night. Josh Collins, Austin Earl, and Ernie Gamboa doubled for the Wildcats.

Archbishop Murphy is set to face Anacortes on Saturday in order to decide the first and second seeds.

Burlington-Edison’s loss means the Tigers will play Cedarcrest on Saturday with the winner advancing to state and the loser eliminated.
