Climb: Get a leaf’s eye view of trees
Ascend high into the canopy of a graceful old oak or maple, inching up a rope system into the leaves to experience a tree in a whole new way.
Marysville Parks and Recreation offers the tree climb experience with Katie Oakley of Tree Time, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. May 30 at Doleshel Park, 9028 67th Ave.
The class cost is $30. All equipment and helmets are provided. Climbing is for ages 14 and older, and ages 6-13 with a registered adult. Registration is required.

Cosplay: Anime fest comes to EvCC
Learn about Japanese art, culture and history at the free Japanese Anime Arts Festival May 29-30 at Everett Community College. The festival happens 12-9 p.m. May 29 and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 30.
Events include a drawing demonstration by Japanese manga artist Yoshimi Kurata, a presentation by manga translator and Japanese ghost scholar Zack Davisson and the opportunity to meet Seattle artist Enfu. Visitors are invited to wear their cosplay costumes and participate in a cosplay flash mob and parade just prior to opening ceremony. The festival is free and open to everyone. Tea ceremonies at the Japanese tea room, where matcha and sweets can be enjoyed, costs $5.

Walk: Learn about edible plants
Jennifer Sundstrom leads an edible plant walk, 3-5 p.m. Saturday, starting from the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Registration is required by Friday.
Stroll through the park, greet the spring growth of plants and weeds, and discuss their food and medicinal uses. Tips for sustainable harvesting of wild edibles will be offered. The event is rain or shine.

Volley: Tourney benefits Nepal
Volley For Nepal is set for 11 a.m.-5 p.m. May 30 at Wilcox Park, 5215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. The volleyball tournament is organized by the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement of Everett to benefit the victims of the Nepal earthquake.
The cost to participate is $40 per team of four to seven players. All proceeds will go to Save The Children to provide clean water, blankets, emergency shelter kits and other aid in Nepal.
The Catholic-based nonprofit held a similar tournament last year to benefit the victims of the Oso mudslide. Last year’s event raised over $500 for United Way.

Nominate: Awards honor Everett’s homes
It’s the final week for nominations for Everett’s Monte Cristo Awards, which annually honor property owners who have taken extra effort to make homes or businesses attractive and keep them well maintained. Nomination forms, due June 1, are available at www.everettwa.gov/montecristo, and at Everett Public Library branches, the city of Everett’s office lobby in the Wall Street Building, the Snohomish County PUD, at local home improvement, paint and lumber stores, and through neighborhood associations.
