Everett defenseman Noah Juulsen is still out with the concussion he suffered last week, Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson confirmed Wednesday.
Davidson said Juulsen won’t skate at this weekend’s Holiday Inn Classic, and might miss next week’s Tri-City Preseason Tournament. Davidson added that Juulsen is progressing through the concussion protocol.
“He’s moving along very nicely,” Davidson said. “I’m excited to hear that, but we’re going to take our time with that too.”
Juulsen was scheduled to go to Montreal Canadiens training camp next week, but it’s unclear whether or not his concussion will cause a change in plans. Davidson said that’s up to Montreal in conjunction with Everett’s medical staff.
The Canadian Hockey League – and by extension the Western Hockey League – will be adopting the NHL’s new 3-on-3 five-minute overtime rule. The idea is to cut down on the number of games that go to a shootout.

The Seattle Thunderbirds led the WHL last season with 12 games decided by a shootout. Everett and Red Deer tied for second with 11. There were 64 games that ended in overtime last year and 69 that went to a shootout in the WHL.
We had this feature in Thursday’s paper on the many WHL and NHL connections of recent Silvertips signee Riley Sutter.
The Tips are expected to announce additional signings Thursday. We’ll update that as it becomes available.
