EDMONDS — Defending 3A state champion Edmonds-Woodway was stellar defensively Thursday night in its shutout win of non-league opponent Bellevue.

Allison Monroe scored the only goal of the game after an assist by Ellie Shull.

“It was a well-struck ball and the keeper coudln’t do anything about it,” Edmonds-Woodway coach Bill LeCompte said. “Allison was right where she needed to be.”

The win puts the Warriors at 1-1-0 on the season following Tuesday’s loss to Mercer Island.

“it was a more complete effort defensively than we played Tuesday,” LeCompte said.

Warriors keeper Hannah Hicks saved a potentially game-tying goal with five minutes left in the game.

“We moved as a complete unit tonight,” LeCompte said. “They had to rush their shots and that made a lot of the difference.”

The Warriors open league play Tuesday against Marysville Pilchuck.
