New speed limit coming on U.S. 2 in Index

INDEX — Drivers using U.S. 2 through Index should be prepared for a speed limit change coming sometime the week of Oct. 19.

Working with the town, the Washington State Department of Transportation will complete the field work to lower the speed limit from 60 mph to 50 mph from mile post 35 to 36.32 — from about Mount Index River Road to Index Junction. The changes are aimed at improving safety.
