Noah Juulsen scores as Team WHL defeats Russia 7-3

Team Russia was no match for Team WHL Monday as the CHL Canada-Russia Series began in Kelowna, B.C.
Team WHL defeated Russia 7-3 and out-shot the Russians 31-18. Team WHL scored the first seven goals of the game.
Everett’s Noah Juulsen scored the second goal for Team WHL. His backhand goal at 14:35 in the first period came on assists from Brayden Point and Collin Shirley, and elicited some snark on Twitter:

Silvertip Carter Hart replaced starting goaltender Zach Sawchenko in the second period and recorded six saves and allowed Russia’s three goals.
Juulsen ended up leaving the game after blocking a puck according to several tweets from those watching the game:

Shirley of the Kamloops Blazers was named the Player of the Game after recording a goal and three assists. Point of the Moose Jaw Warriors finished with a goal and a pair of assists.
The series continues Tuesday in Kamloops when Team WHL plays Russia for the second and final time. Russia then plays two games against Team OHL followed by two more games against Team QMJHL.
